Guitar Lessons

UPfreebirdUPfreebird Posts: 13,387 destroyer of motherfuckers

I got my guitar in yesterday and played it for an hour or so.
I realized that I need to learn some new music.
It's been nearly 15 years since I learned anything new on the guitar.

Does anybody have some 'must learn' songs for the guitar?

I remember all the Major and Minor Chords and a few Arpeggios.
And I remember about 3 full songs but only one is good (Under The Bridge by; RHCP)

Anyway, this thread is dedicated to all things Guitar.

I plan on practicing all the Major and Minor Scales until I am fluent with them.
Started with the E-Scale yesterday and played it in all 5 Positions.

Get yourself a chord sheet so you can learn chords anywhere on the neck
Practice scales and try learning how to build scales instead of just learning shapes, although shapes are always really helpful
Once you're comfortable with the basics, start learning songs you like. that's the best way to learn imo

Or just fake it, like I do

I am not a complete noob to guitar.
I am just self taught from when I had Idle time.
At one point in time I could play nearly 200 songs by looking at my tab sheets.
I started to learn music theory with all the different modes (Ionian, Phrygian, etc).
Chords I am pretty good with.  Unless it's something Augmented or Suspended 7th.

Scales I am not so good at cuz I never really practiced them.
I'd love to just be able to walk up and down the next with different scales.
And do Arpeggios and understand how they are built.
Scales are what I am going to be working on.
I learned the E in all 5 positions.
Now I just have to practice it so I don't forget it.

So if I wanted to learn guitar as a complete noob is it realistic to expect to be able to play Through The Fire and The Flames by day two? I always give up when I can't get that down

I am also not super new to music.
In 5th grade I started the Violin.  Played that fucker for 4 years then quit.
In 6th grade I played the Trumpet and as in the school's Jazz band.  Played that fucker for 4 years until I was forced into the Marching band at school where they played at football games and during city parades and said FUCK THAT.

Then got in trouble,.. blah blah,.. and picked up the guitar.
Sure as fuck wish I would have learned the guitar when I was in 5th grade but it wasn't offered.  In fact it was never offered in school.  Only time I saw someone with a guitar was the Bass player for the Orchestra after he fell off the platform and broke his wooden bass.  So he had to use an electric bass guitar.

    My school sucked.

Has anyone ever tried Tab Pro?
Seems like a great and useful Tool for any musician.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it and has a review.

I use Songsterr for website tabs, since it basically has a built in pro. But I also bought the guitar pro program. Its useful for composing.
